What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Romans 8:31-34 (NIV)
To be sure, any man (or woman) can fall. He that is the most purified and refined may soon be wallowing in the pig pen as the weakest saint. Indeed, oftentimes, Satan’s design is against them the most and there is no worldly strength, riches or personality which can secure and fortify us against the adversary’s assaults. The bigger the man the greater the fall. The attacks of the fiery darts of Hell never feel good and no doubt anyone is capable of falling. The strongest are weak and the wisest foolish when sifted in Satan’s sieve. We must not think so highly of ourselves that we are above crucifying our Master over again. Just ask Peter.
Thankfully, we have an Advocate at the right hand of God interceding for us night and day. Jesus. He came to die and save us from our sins and He lives interceding for us to God on our behalf. What a Savior. What a Friend.
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 1 John 2:1 (NIV)
