The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.” Jeremiah 17:9-10 (NIV)
Jesus desires our passion – even demands it – to blaze fiery hot for what is righteous, good, holy, pure and pleasing. These attributes will never fail us, let us down, or lead us wrongly in this life. A heart on fire for the Lord Jesus is kept safely in His all-sufficient hands. What is it that our hearts yearn, love and long for the most? Where does our true treasure lie? It matters. We are always in pursuit of what we greatly love, Amen? If our treasure is in anything but Him our contentment will wax and wane because our pursuits will never “scratch our itch”. Our hearts must be in line with His. We were created by Him and for Him.
A heart that is fitted for communion with the Lord Jesus is one that boldly hungers and thirsts for Him in all righteousness and Truth. It is a heart that presses on faithfully and continues to seek Him when others give up and flee. “You do not want to leave me too, do you?” Jesus queried His original disciples. We are to remain faithful even if others fail to do so – keeping our eyes fixed on Him. “To whom shall we go?” as Peter stated, is the correct response to our Lord’s question. Jesus has the Words of eternal life. When Christ is in our hearts as our One true love, we will cast out all false rivals.
May the fire of our devotion light the way for others. God loves to see glowing hearts of passion for Him, blazing with His love, grace and light to all in our spheres of influence. This was just as He did when He walked this dusty earth. And through His power, we are to be faithful to burn brightly for the Lord Jesus in our time of His-story.
God desires our obedience fully, completely and without delay and He is the One Who gives us the ability to carry it out. The state of grace truly begins with our warfare and disdain against sin – seeking to walk as Jesus walked. How can we embrace our Delilah’s when it caused our Lord to be crucified? Heaven is our place of rest yet earth is the battleground for the followers of Christ Jesus. Just as it was for Him. Remember as well, it is in His presence that brings fullness of joy and peace to the heart.
“‘For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’”** Matthew 13:15 (NIV)**
