The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. Psalms 34:7-10 (NIV)
Life is fleeting. Each minute is an unrepeatable miracle. The days may wax long yet the years definitely fly by. It is easy to waste this one life we are given is it not? Frittering it away on the temporal in lieu of investing it in the eternal. Remember, in death what matters most is how we lived this one life. And there are no do-overs. A life is a terrible thing to waste. We do not want to die before we have truly lived either. Lasting and true pleasures are found only in a life of faith which is available to all. Those who trust in the Lord experience genuine happiness and contentment – not in things, rather in Him – Who is our sufficiency and strength.
As all the rivers run into the sea, so all true delights center in the Lord Jesus. When we are filled with His sufficiency our cups are full and there remains no wanting. We must learn from the One who mastered life while daily walking towards death. Jesus took hold of the life that was truly life by living in total obedience to the Father. God’s ways are always the highest and best ways for a life. Jesus was about His Father’s business. Likewise, we too are to be about our obedience to God’s revealed will – His good, pleasing and perfect will. We come to know His will by being in His Word and applying its Truths to our lives. Remember as well, Jesus was the Master of love as He walked this dusty earth and believers are to follow in His footsteps – as we are to be like Him. We are told in 1 John 2:6 (NIV): Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
We are not static people. We are either growing forward in righteousness or backwards - wallowing in the pigpen of our own poor choices. And we certainly do not want to die before we have truly lived. As we keep our faith strong it will keep our joy. Is it not fitting for the righteous to rejoice? Be filled with joy. All who fear the Lord – those who are genuine worshipers – lack no good thing, states the Scriptures.
LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalms 16:5-8 (NIV)
