But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25 (NIV)
Believer, how is your walk with the Lord? The answer is important. It matters greatly to Jesus how we live our lives so therefore it is right and good for us to question our own hearts – not to mention healthy. Are we producing fruit in keeping with repentance - as the Baptist queried his audiences? We are to search our hearts and ask God too as well. He is faithful to point out any offensive ways within us and give us the power to change them. And believe me, we want to change them. Freedom only comes through standing firm in His will, mature and fully assured. We are ALL in progress – if we were not, we would be home with the Lord. So here we are, living free in enemy occupied territory, on our way home. Are we manifesting His presence in our spheres of influences (and we all have them BTW)?
The Fruit of the Spirit is winsome – like Jesus – and we are to continually exude it to all around us – splashing others with the fresh supply of the Living Water of His love. Not being burdened again with the yoke of slavery of our own choosing. Christ is the great Liberator of the soul setting us free from all bondage. Living free is unencumbered and refreshingly light yet impossible to produce apart from the indwelling Holy Spirit’s power which every believer in sweet Jesus has. Unfortunately, we often shrink the Spirit’s power within by our own poor choices. He does not force us into obedience. Human beings are wired to be yoked to something – as God would have it - the Savior, sin, self or Satan. And it is only in Jesus that we discover true freedom. We are to be men and women of great courage and stand strong in the Lord. It is not regulations, rather relationship.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 (NIV)
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 (NIV)
