Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear--hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh. Jude 1:22-23 (NIV)
Many of us have the wrong assumption that missions is just for those going to faraway places where they speak tongues our ears have perhaps never heard. Yet, we all live amongst a people in our own spheres of influence who remain wanderers in a world of woe. We don’t have to travel to another continent. Need is right under our noses – if we will only open our eyes to see. As we slowdown from our fast paced way of living, our distracted thoughts and our preoccupation with self, we become aware of the opportunities God presents us with in our own little worlds. We must not rush past all whom God places in our spheres. Each encounter is purposeful – even if it is merely to smile, speak an encouraging word or to do a small act of kindness. He wants us to be His arms and mouth and heart and feet to point others to Him by what we do and say. And we do this through the power of Holy Spirit indwelling every believer in Jesus.
When our Lord walked this dusty earth His life was filled with interruptions, Amen? He was always “on mission” going somewhere and someone in need would grab His attention by their emptiness and want. He was forever making the most of every opportunity as His Father presented. His life was moment by moment mission minded. This is the way we are to live as well. He was always pointing those in His sphere toward heaven. God will give us all that we need to point others to His saving grace. Pray to be more and more aware of His divine appointments and that He will equip us with all we need to point others to Him as we walk in the boldness of His power.
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:14-15 (NIV)
