Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing. 1 Kings 18:21 (NIV)
God is constantly revealing Himself to us by special discoveries of His mercy and sufficiency. He desires for us to submit to His good and pleasing and perfect will and to trust in His mercy. He wants us to know and feel the effects of the efficacy of His amazing grace toward us. The Apostle Paul knew that nothing could separate us from the love of Christ and therefore walked in a manner worthy of such a high calling. God’s children have a holy fear that keeps them from self-security. Those that are resolved in their relationship with the Lord Jesus, having God as their Father and the power of the Holy Spirit as their diving Helper are the happiest persons on earth. Vacillation is out of the question as they have their Father’s blessing and know that all things are working out for their good. They are assured that their Father rules over all, He is never off His throne and as a loving Father, He has always has their best interest at heart. There is no safer place to be than in His loving hands.
Fear can keep us from having a firm resolve. Fear can be a snare. The will that is not established on the truth of God’s Word and His righteousness will fall easy prey to fear. We often so want to listen to what our “itching ears” want to hear. The palatable, the easy way out, the path of least resistance is often taken if the resolve to follow hard after Christ is not firm – causing us much havoc. We want to be in the center of His will – mature and fully assured. God desires for us to walk in His ways both for our good and His glory never one surpassing the other. Spare yourself the pain. His way is the right way – the good and pleasing and perfect way – be it ever so hard.
“Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:14-15 (NIV)
