And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

The One Who gives the power gets the glory, Amen? Indeed, what do we have that we did not receive and if we received it why on earth do we boast? It is God alone Who deserves all glory. Our containers of flesh are much too fragile and weak to house glory. Indeed, the insidious monster of pride creeps in and like acid, corrupts the container it dwells in – turning our lives towards selfish ambitions and vain conceits and a “better than thou” mentality. It does us well to remind ourselves that we all stand equal at the foot of the cross – every.last.one.of.us. – and we are all in desperate need of a Savior. Praise Jesus we have One.

We would also do well to remember the glory of our Creator God and worship Him humbly in awe and in appreciation – He being so totally Other. If we cannot even conceive of God’s works and wisdom how in the world can we be prideful? Scripture tells us in Isaiah 40:12-14 (NIV): “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? Who has understood the mind of the LORD, or instructed him as his counselor? Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge or showed him the path of understanding?” The correct answer to His rhetorical questions is “no one,” Amen?

God is so totally other. All glory alone is due His Great Name. Indeed, no one stands in His presence apart from the blood of Jesus covering their sins and the Holy Spirit indwelling every true believer as Psalm One (NIV) clearly tells us: “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”

One fine day every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord – to the glory of God the Father. His exaltation being made know to all. Do not be foolish but understand what the will of the Lord is, His Word clearly tells us. Whatever we do, do it all for the glory of God.

“I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:20-21 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
