Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. Psalms 55:22 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

God wants His people to be “burden casters” - our fears, our cares, our needs and our sins – all of it placed on His all powerful shoulders in lieu of our weak ones. He is with us in whatever troubles us and we are to roll our burdens upon Him as Peter writes in 1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV): “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Jesus sustains us because He cares for us and is genuinely concerned for our welfare. He will either take away our circumstance or make a way through our circumstance, ever seeking to change our hearts through our circumstance. His desire is to make us more and more like Jesus - Who came to earth to do God’s will. To me, the most powerful work He does is the changing of the leanings of the human heart. Our hearts are deceitful beyond cure and they can be quite hard. And a deluded heart will mislead us. As His children, we can be assured that in all things He allows will in some way prove for our good and His glory never one surpassing the other. The greatest miracle is always a changed heart and its leanings to be more and more like Jesus. And God is a rich blessing to the soul and a great storehouse of mercy as He is a sufficient good, satisfying our hearts with good things. He is enough. Indeed, He is more than enough. It is never God plus something else. He is not only a full vessel but a spring – which never runs dry - of continual good – infinite fullness. And the crowning blessing is that He has given us Him.

If God is our God we can be satisfied and joyful in all conditions – through His indwelling power – which is unearthly in it nature. His sweetness captures our souls and at His right Hand are pleasures forevermore as King David writes. There is nothing greater for the soul than having the infinite, all-sufficient God as our God and our portion.

Let us live in such a way that others see Jesus in us and walk in a manner worthy through His power and for His glory. Our confidence rests in Him. He sustains and cares for us and is truly and genuinely concerned for our welfare and He will never leave us nor forsake us. Indeed, His love and His rod often stand together yet He only allows unmingled good in the life of the believer. The thing may not be good, but what it brings about will be good. We can trust Him, even if our eyes cannot see it. Our lives are safe in His all powerful Hands.

Heart Savor

The Lion Roars

But I call to God, and the LORD saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. He ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me. God, who is enthroned forever, will hear them and afflict them—Selah. Men who never change their ways and have no fear of God. Psalms 55:16-19 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
