Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Our jars of clay were never made to carry the concerns of the world or even our puny lives. The acid of anxiety will eat a hole right through us if we are not careful. Worry corrodes the vessel it is in. Besides that worry demonstrates we think we are in control – that we have to figure “this thing” out – whatever “this thing” is – like it all depends upon us. Most of us can be like two year old’s stomping our feet screaming “I can do this myself” until we realize we can’t.
If God is our Father, we are to behave as His children – we are to depend upon Him in all our straights and difficulties as well as our joys and blessings. As children rely on their earthly parents to meet their needs, we must believe that God will supply for us as well. He is a loving Father who always has our best interest at heart. Seriously, will God give us heaven and not care for us along our way? Will He give us a kingdom and deny us of our daily bread? We must not give into distrustful thoughts about our heavenly Father. If He clothes the grass of the field which is here today and tomorrow thrown into the fire will He not care for us? Put your trust in Him for He has said “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:5-7 (NIV)
