Come to Him for Calm: Let Jesus Have Your Anxious Heart

The Lion Loosed

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

Weary, heavy laden, anxiety filled?  Jesus beckons:  Come to Me.  It is He Who transcends all understanding.  It is He Who fills our hearts with the peace we are all longing for.  It is stunning, is it not, that we ignore and neglect Him as we do.  The Prince of Peace is ever waiting for the prodigal.  What a Savior, what a Friend!  When we are distracted from Jesus, consumed with the cares of the world, we forfeit the calm we so desperately need.  His desire is to quiet the turbulence within our hearts as our minds race from one worry to another.

Stop.  Look up.  Seek Him though - He is not far.  He desires to rid us of our sinful anxiety by giving us the One thing that is necessary – Him.  Satan seeks to keep us distracted by making everything else feel more urgent than coming to our Lord yet he is truly the “One thing necessary” as He told Martha.  He is the good portion, the well that never runs dry.  He gives us peace in trouble and when there is a storm without He gives us music within.  The world can give you troubles even in peace but God gives you peace in trouble.  We are the beloved of His soul (Jeremiah 31:3).

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
