Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12 (NIV)
Believers are to bear witness to Christ’s faithfulness and love by allowing others to see Jesus in us. Yes, little ‘ole us. Indeed, we are to daily be manifesting all the fruit of the Spirit in ever increasing measures to our spheres of influence – everyone God places in our paths, Amen? Spiritual fruit must abound in the believer’s life in order to keep us from being ineffective or unfruitful in our walks with the Lord Jesus. We are not here simply to entertain ourselves to death or to be so self-absorbed that we never look up for strength or out to help others.
God’s Word gives us maturity and knowledge so that we might be able to combat the forces of evil in our dark world and in our own deceitful hearts as well. Light will always dispel darkness. We are not to be so internally wired, continuously looking in – consumed with self and our own little plans for our own little worlds. God has plans for each life – for our good and His desire is for us to walk in them. And we are the great losers when we choose our wills over His. Those that wallow in their own ways are often not very pleasant people to be around either, Amen? God calls us to walk as Jesus walked - with eyes of empathy, kindness and compassion towards a hurting world that so desperately needs Him – being His Hands, His feet and His heart.
You might be thinking I need someone to be that way for me as well – and you are not wrong. We are all a great big bundle of needs standing with empty cups before the Throne of God daily needing filling. Yet, it is the great dichotomy of Scripture that you give to get, that you die to live, that you pour out your life like a drink offering to be filled – and there is nothing on earth like it – even though it is often very difficult, we can trust Him with our lives. Everything else is, well, so very less.
Those who constantly listen and adhere to God’s Word are rewarded – perhaps not in this blip of time here but certainly throughout all eternity. God misses not one sacrifice made for His glory and honor. Not one. We are to be a people who are not blithely blinded or ignorant of Satan’s schemes rather filled with wisdom and the truth of Scripture. This brings us a peace that passes understanding that guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. When we know God’s Truth it is truly freeing. James tells us in James 4:7-8 (NIV): “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” As we humble ourselves, He lifts us up -always. Always.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
