“For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4 (NIV)
Victorious. Isn’t that the most delicious word? Who doesn’t want to walk in victory over all of life? This would include all of our “Goliath’s”, our “Red Seas” experiences, and our ferocious enemies – both inside and out. But guess what? It does not come from within us – we simply can’t continually muster it up with our stones and slingshots. How silly that must look to our Lord. When we go forth in our own strength – with our sweat dripping from our brows - it is no strength at all – and it gets us nowhere fast. To have confidence in self to fight all battles will surely find us wanting and our banners dragging in the dirt.
God wants His children victorious over all life. Through His power indwelling within us He wants us to do great exploits which are simply too difficult for man to do. Why? So that He will get the glory not we! And so that all the earth will know Him. Remember, “For God so loved the world”. Nothing is more common than the strength of man – the sweat of his brow, the boasting of what he has and does, his own physical prowess, all pointing to the pride of his heart. Why do we want to seek the common? Look higher. God has amazing exploits planned which He desires for us to walk in - for each one of us. They may not all look like the parting of the Red Sea or the felling of a great giant or a baby at 90 but (and this is a big BUT) they will point to a Great God Who continues to work on behalf of His saints. We see so little “God works” because we are too busy doing “man works” and we are missing out on all that God wants to do in and through us. He desires for us to relinquish our silly plans. Trust Him. Leaning into Him and asking Him to direct our path and enable us to do things too hard for man to do – through His power. He will turn the ordinary into the extraordinary as we radiate a holy confidence in Him and His faithfulness. Faith moves God’s mighty Hand on our behalf.
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.” Exodus 14:13-18 (NIV)
