The Lesson Learned

The Father will give us all we need for God glorifying contentment - in every circumstance, His grace will be sufficient for our every need – whether in plenty or in want, whether well fed or hungry. It is His promise to us to be our sufficiency and strength in every situation. If we do not presently have the need we do not presently have that grace. This makes it obvious, does it not, that covetousness would be the exact opposite of faith. When we sense the longings for the “grain, figs, grapevines, pomegranates, pots of meat, and leaks of Egypt”, and on and on – aka the things of this world – and the grumblings start to rumble on, we can know contentment has been misplaced by covetousness in our hearts. Covetousness leads to more covetousness is never satisfied. Enough is never enough. It is a deadly trap and God in His mercy warns and warns us against it. We are to be content with what we have. 

The Apostle Paul tells us contentment is a learned secret. We cannot know that God is sufficient in every need until that need arises, Amen? Draw near to Him. Cry out to Him. Lean into Him. He is nearer than your breath and He is overwhelmingly adequate in the most hopeless of circumstances. His desire is for us to trust - not in ourselves, but in Him Who raises the dead. And He is always closest to the one presently walking in the fire. We can have the utmost confidence that all that God is remains continually available to whomever is available to all that God is. Just think Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in their earthly fire. We can cast all our cares on Him and He will lift us up in due time. We can be sure that nothing will be lacking for our ultimate good. Look to His Hands for all things. We are to let Christ satisfy our hearts for only He can do it fully – all else will be found wanting and is a mere paste gem compared to the Diamond.
