Ditch The Doubts: Finding It Hard To Keep Believing

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.** Psalms 27:13-14 (NIV)**

The Lesson Learned

Sometimes we need to be like King David, regaining our confidence in the Lord and strengthening ourselves to wait on His deliverance and good timing – as difficult as that can be. As we wait on Him, He will either change our circumstances or change our hearts through our circumstances – the latter being the far greater miracle in my opinion. He chisels away what needs to go and replaces it with what needs to be present to make us more and more like Jesus. God seeks to rid us of things such as pride, deceit, anger, rage, malice slander, filthy language – and a litany of other characteristics not of Him – and He replaces them with the Fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control – against such things there is no law. As we yield our lives to Him, He will direct us in the way we should go, enabling us to stand firm in all His will, mature and fully assured. “No good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless,” Psalms 84:11B – not perfect, rather blameless meaning complete and whole. And our God always does the right thing – even if we cannot fully understand it. He can do even the seemingly impossible - and we need not fear as we rest secure in Him. He always has our best interest at heart. As we place our timelines and treasures and those we love in His all powerful hands, we will discover His ways will best satisfy our souls.

We often need to remind ourselves that He’s got this, even this. Reflecting upon Scripture helps us in the wait and keeps our doubts and fears at bay. Romans 8:31-32 (NIV) are wonderful verses to meditate upon: “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” “All things” that are good for us - not necessarily easy or of our choosing. Indeed, sadly, it is often easy to kick against God’s best for our lives and grumble and complain as the Israelites did when we want what we do not have or have what we do not want. He meets our needs, not necessarily our wants. We often need to get our “wanters” fixed, Amen? God is not so much concerned about our “ease” as much as our “conformation”. His desire for us is to walk as Jesus walked. And we would do well to remember that God is the Author and Source of all things beautiful and good.

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Philippians 4:19-20 (NIV)
