Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. Psalms 73:23-25 (NIV)
As the compass is to the mariner, so the Bible to the sojourning believer in Christ. We all stand in need of guidance and being assured of what we do not see, Amen? A healthy sense of our own ineptness and foolishness is a great step towards this wisdom. We do not need to look in, rather up. Fixing our eyes, not on what is seen rather unseen. We are to rely on the wisdom of God and He graciously has given us His Word to trust in – He will never vary from it or water it down to meet our fancies. We are to give ourselves to His guidance, doubting nothing in His Word, relying on His mighty hand and His heart of love towards every believer – whether we “feel” it or not, we can trust the God Who sees all. Remember, Jesus is the friend that sticks closer than a brother guiding, directing an advising you in His Word and ways. As newborn babies crave their mother’s milk, we are to crave the Word of God.
The Bible is our unerring Word that leads, guides and directs us, warning us of the destructive ways which proves quicksand to our souls. God is our Advisor and Friend and He primarily uses the Word to direct and teach us – He never goes against it or changes it. Never bow to the varying customs of worldly wisdom rather follow the Word God has placed in our hands leaning not merely on our own understandings rather acknowledging Him and His ways and HE will make our paths straight. His Word is not to merely be idle words for us, they are to be our life, as Moses claimed. Walk in His path with integrity and with firm steps and the with the invisible strength and confidence that God alone can bring about. We can trust His Guide (God’s Word) through every walk of life. It is true Truth. No one who puts their trust in His Word will be disappointed. As we walk in wisdom and righteousness and faithfulness, according to His Word, He will guide, direct, and empower us and then takes us into glory – what a thought! What a God!
“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7-9 (NIV)
