We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment: “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 (NIV)
As believer’s in Jesus, we are spiritual people and we have the mind of Christ. Therefore, we are to be obedient to God’s revealed will in His Word – just as Jesus did when He walked this dusty earth. Our mindsets and attitudes are to be like His – Who, though God, made Himself nothing. Taking the very nature of a servant and being found in appearance as a mere man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross. This attitude of mind involves the will, affections and conscience. It is to be done with a firm resolve - as sure as we begin to vacillate we fall. According to both verses above, we are to be proactive in this. Demolishing, taking captive and making judgments are the descriptors used. Remember, the wisdom of this world is futile and foolishness in God’s sight. “But wisdom is proved right by her actions,” states Jesus in Matthew 11:19.
An ungoverned mind is a raging and wild thing. Those with a mindset of worldliness and the pride of flesh end up living more like beasts than men. Out of control flesh is an ugly sight to behold to be sure, not to mention repugnant to God who sees all. Think the men of Noah’s time and Lot’s time. The arguments and mindsets we encounter that encourage sin, exalt self, conform us to the world’s design and blends us with the worldly men, we may safely reject. Whatever makes us more sinful, carnal, or proud never came from the Lord Jesus’ Hand. Seek to imitate the Great Shepherd, faithfully living consistently in His power for His glory. Those who imitate Christ bless in lieu of harm His people.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
