So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

Fear paralyzes. It can rob us of health, productivity, joy and a plethora of other things. It is one thing to be fearful when being chased by a bear, but totally another when fear becomes our lifestyle. It is certainly not our friend. Chronic fear kills. Also, it does us well to recall how very little control we actually have over what occurs in our lives. We can be ever so prepared, ever so diligent, seeking to do it all right, like Job, and things have a way of changing in a breath, in a mere twinkling of an eye. Further, being chronically fearful of what may or may not happen – whatever that may be - robs us of all the joys God has abundantly given us in the present. The present is the present. It is the unrepeatable miracle and sitting around being fearful - wringing our hands in despair - robs us of that. And the God of all creation, the God Who is ever on His mighty Throne, the God Who IS in charge, Who has total control, lovingly calls to us, “Look up”.

God does not want us to be fearful rather trusting. He is our great Helper, Who always uses what He allows in the lives of His heirs of mercy for their good and for His glory. He is never taken by surprise or left wringing His Hands over what He should do. He Himself states about Himself in Isaiah 46:8-10 (NIV): “‘Remember this, fix it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’”

He Who makes known the end from the beginning is in total control and desires to guide us through every circumstance in this life. Nothing is “pala” – too hard – for Him. We can depend upon Him. He will never, never fail us. He will either change our circumstances or change us through them – the latter being the greater - and we can depend upon Him. He will never leave us nor forsakes us. And Yahweh, is always only a breath away. Also, remember, whatever brings Him glory, brings us much good – one never surpassing the other.

“For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, O worm Jacob, O little Israel, for I myself will help you,’ declares the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.” Isaiah 41:13-14 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
