In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.” Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:1-8 (NIV)
Make no mistake about it, God is on His throne. He is always on His throne – exalted and ruling above all and over all. There is no one or no thing above Him. Never has been, never will be. And He is in control all things. Not even a hair falls from your head apart from his knowledge of it. Everything answers to Him and it is all His. He Who created all, owns all. Whenever flesh was even in the presence of angelic beings in Scripture – much less the God of all creation - they would fall to their faces in reverential fear. Sinful flesh cannot stand in the presence of a Holy God. This is why we all need a Savior and thankfully we have One in Jesus. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. Believers are now clothed in Christ’s righteousness and He will cause us to stand because He is faithful and able to cause us to stand.
The thought that our exalted God being always on our side should overwhelmingly serve as an amazing inspiration causing us much praise and thanksgiving for Who He is. And He is, Who He is, all the time.
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalms 46:10 (NIV)
