God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah Psalms 46:1-3 (NIV)
Believers in sweet Jesus are never alone – He will never leave us nor forsake us, Amen? He is with us in trials and troubles, as well as jubilant joys and ferocious fears. He is the Friend that sticks closer than a brother and He desires for our comfort and relief by resting secure in Him. His robe of righteousness is meant to be wrapped around us like a hug from a loving Father. Believers find safety and courage by trusting in Him Who is always present to help in all our troubles. He is, indeed, exceedingly present in the lives of every heir of mercy. He revives, relieves and replenishes us desiring His covenant blessing to be upon His people. Again, never will He leave us, never will He forsake us. We might be fickle but He never is.
What is more, He desires to be with us, to walk with us in the cool of the day as He did with Adam and Eve in the Garden before the fall. Then sin entered the scene and separated us - until Jesus that is. He came and bled and died to bring us back together again by taking away our sin. “Amazing love, how can it be, that thou my God should die for me?” as the great hymn goes. The day we entered into covenant with God through Jesus’ sacrifice we entered into the most impregnable fortress. To have God on our side is infinitely more than anything the world could offer. God is our constant refuge and strength. It is well with the soul who has the One Who is forever the same and Who is always with us. We are to set our hearts upon Him, Who is faithful forever and not seeking comfort and sufficiency in all the wrong places. We do well to build our hopes on the solid Rock of Christ rather than the moving quicksands of this deceitful world. We can rest secure in the One Who shields us all day long. Being with us always is certainly enough for our souls to live on no matter who else may forsake us. He never will.
“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. John 14:15-18 (NIV)
