Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)
When we get our eyes off the Master, we quickly start to sink, Amen? We cannot conquer our doubts and fears by focusing on them rather by steadily looking at Him. Dwelling and concentrating fiercely on the issues at hand makes them bigger not smaller. When we get to heaven we can kibitz with Peter how it went down with him as he was watching the waves while sinking in the water.
We must not try to live our faith out on simply our conversions or some climactic spiritual experience to carry us through our entire lives. Rather, we are to look to Him every day for everything to strengthen and empower us to walk in a manner worthy of His Gospel. His desire is for us to walk by faith and not by sight keeping our eyes fixed on Him.
The more we know Him the more ridiculous our fears and doubts become. Worry and doubt demonstrate that we believe we are the ones in control and know what is best for our lives instead of the One sitting on the throne. The One Who created us BTW. Remember, the more we keep looking to Jesus the smaller our problems become. He is the problem solver and He know how to handle them – every.last.one.of.them. He has not left us as orphans – He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us. We do what He calls us to do through His power and we leave the results in His Hands – knowing He loves us and has our very best interest at heart. Trusting in Him brings peace to every circumstance – no matter how horrific. We rest secure in Him for the power and for the results. That is called faith. God is the only One that can change a human heart and give it an entirely different leaning. And He can change any circumstance in less than a nanosecond. He is God and we are not, BTW. Think of the Red Sea parting or the lepers gleaning the spoils of Israel’s enemies and a myriad of other examples in Scripture all given to comfort and equip us to fight this very good fight of faith in our sojourns here on our way home.
As T.W. Hunt stated we must “get out ‘wanters’ in line with His”. We are to want what He wants for our lives and the lives of all we hold dear. That is the very best for every life. The most wonderful place to be is in the center of His will, mature and fully assured – even though perhaps different from what we thought our life would look like, Amen? We need Jesus in all of life’s myriad of circumstances to lead, guide and direct us in the way we should go – all.the.time. A fresh supply of God’s grace - sufficient to meet the need today is the Lord’s method. Like manna in the morning for the Israelites which He daily supplied – not to be hoarded but all to be used. The way to keep walking is to keep looking at Him.
To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-- to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. Jude 1:24-25 (NIV)
