The Lesson Learned

When one comes to Jesus they are not given a long to-do list that is easily checked off and then we go about our own way simply leaning on our own understanding.  No, no.  Jesus desires to be our guide throughout all of life.  He Himself will lead our caravan as He is the Head.  We will continually hear the guiding voice of the Great Shepherd as He leads us to our heavenly home.  Hear His voice??  Why, who audibly hears His voice??  Some may, I never have.  What I have experienced though is the Holy Spirit indwelling me, leading me, convicting me, and encouraging me on through God’s Word – our guide for life. We must be quick to listen.  I often find myself too loud to hear His still small voice, going about my own miserable way, much to my own harm and loss.  Yet as we humble ourselves and call out to Him, He will tell us great and unsearchable things we do not know.

Scripture calls us to walk as Jesus walked while we are here on the road that leads us to our Heavenly Home.  He is a good Guide, leading us to the city in which we will eternally dwell – we can count on Him.  Jesus is the good Shepherd - to be sure - never losing one of His own.  He who began the good work in us will carry it on to completion.  We do not go wrong going forth in the company of the Friend of Sinners   .  We will not mistake our road though perhaps at times it may not be smooth sailing rather confusing, scary, and flinty filled.  Yet it leads to the city whose Architect and Builder is God.  We can put our trust in His fully capable hands Who is working out all things for the pure, unmingled good of every heir of mercy.  Having infallible wisdom to guide us, immutable love to bring us much comfort and His all-powerful Hand to defend us.

The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.   Isaiah 58:11 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
