From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. John 1:16 (NIV)
John tells us those in Christ Jesus - those who believe in His Name for salvation and for the forgiveness of their sins - have all received - and will continue to receive - from the fullness of His grace. It is as one blessing giving way to another blessing giving away to another blessing. It is the cup that continually overflows, the stream that flows constantly springing up as free and as rich and as full as ever and the well which never runs dry. He is the Living Water. Jesus is the Source of this grace and the wording here indicates “grace in place of grace”. This grace comes to believers as waves come to the shore – moment by moment. It is the constant reception of God’s grace to us replacing another. Constant fullness.
Our Lord Jesus saves, justifies and sanctifies. There remains no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. And Scripture also states that He lives to intercede for us at the right Hand of God. “No good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless”, Psalms 84:11 tells us and its New Testament counterpart Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” The “thing” may not intrinsically be good - and often is not - BUT what He is working in us and through us with that “thing” will be for our good – that is the promise. He gives us freely grace to pardon, grace to regenerate, grace to sanctify, grace to persevere, grace to preserve and grace to perfect – and so much more. Believers get all their needs supplied in His fullness. Ask largely and you will receive largely. For His fullness is inexhaustible and it is stored in reach for every needy soul. And for heaven’s sakes, who isn’t needy?
There is victory in death as well as life everlasting. All found in Christ Jesus alone. We have this living hope – as an anchor for our souls.
“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Isaiah 55:1-2 (NIV)
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalms 90:14 (NIV)
