Paul writes to us in Philippians 4:8 (NIV): “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.” The Bible teaches us that according to the excellency of the object we dwell upon and embrace will be the degree of our contentment and joy. If we constantly fixate on the lesser objects of nature, contentment and joy will elude us as these lower objects will never fully satisfy a soul. They were never meant to. Yet, there is fullness of joy to be found in God’s presence - complete, total, full, not lacking – a perpetual stream of Living Water - filling every space of our empty cups. Though the believer enjoys God partly and imperfectly presently, one fine day they shall see “face to face”. Paul writes to us in 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV): “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
Those in heaven presently know no evil. They are above the storms and temptations, evils and illnesses of this present fallen world and presently enjoy eternal pleasures at His right hand. A continuous flow of constant good. Total bliss. No wanting. No suffering. Whole and complete. Interestingly, those who have traveled to the top of the Alps have seen rain showers fall under them without a drop getting on them.
Scripture tells us that presently, believers are anchored in Christ Jesus – even through the fiercest trials and storms of life. We can rest our head between His all-powerful shoulders, safe and secure from all alarms. He covers us with His feathers and under His wings we find refuge – His faithfulness is our shield and rampart. We need not fear. We are more than conquerors. God is fully able to fill our souls with all good unto all happiness. No good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless. And He fills our souls with all good unto full contentment.
