Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:13-14 (NIV)
When we find ourselves in extraordinarily difficult situations God tells us to look up – not out or in, but up. We are not to wring our hands in despair rather exude cheerful courage knowing God is in control of all things. When we cannot retreat or go forward – when we are shut up on the right and on the left, the Master’s Word to us is “be still”, “stand firm” and know that I am God. We look to Him for our deliverance.
Believers are to clothe themselves with heroic confidence that comes from the Holy Spirit’s indwelling power within every child of the King. God will never fail the eyes of those that look to Him. While His answers are not always initially what we would choose, we can be certain that He has our best interest at heart in all that He allows in the lives of every heir of mercy. And even though perhaps the flames burn high and hot, the results will always be for our ultimate good and His ultimate glory. We can trust Him with our lives. His people will never be ashamed to hope in Him. His divine fiat is for us to go from “strength to strength” until we are at last home with Him.
Worry, desperate and anxious living are not the proper dress for the child of the King. We are to display a peace that passes all understanding and manifest the Fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in every increasing measure. It should be difficult to rattle us – much to the adversary’s chagrin. We are not to despair, shrink back in cowardness or wring our hands in fear. “Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus’ Name,” the great hymn goes.
We clothe ourselves with an heroic confidence in the power and faithfulness of our God and we do not shrink back. Our faith moves God’s mighty Hand. God never fails the eyes of those that look to Him. His people will never be ashamed to place their hope in Him.
“You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.” 2 Chronicles 20:17 (NIV)
