He Will Steady the Saint: The Power of the Almighty God

The Lion Loosed

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.** 1 Peter 5:8-11 (NIV)**

The Lesson Learned

The strength of the saint lies in the Arm of the Almighty God – apart from Him we are nothing and can do nothing of eternal value. Yet, God with us and in us, is more than able to overcome every enemy from without and from within. Further, He desires to fight our battles for us as He knows we are no match in and of ourselves for the schemes and wicked devices of the evil one. The archangel Michael himself would not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against the evil one but said ‘The Lord rebuke you’, Jude 9 states.

We need a higher power than our own weakness. As a small child reaches for his father to steady him, so too the saint reaches for the Most High God to make his steps firm. We simply cannot defend ourselves against the adversary of our souls without God’s mighty Arm. We are no match. God was the strength of King David, the power of Elijah, the wisdom of Solomon and the joy and peace of Paul and He will be so for us as well. They serve as examples of what God can and will do through mere flesh and bones as we empty ourselves of ourselves and are filled with the fullness of Him.

God desires for us to subject ourselves to His rightful rule in our lives. He Who created us knows what is best for us – even if it is difficult. The One who allowed the suffering will also lift the suffering. Just as He said to the waves of the sea “This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt” (Job 38:11 NIV). And He stands at the ready to equip and strengthen His saints in the midst of all our trials and temptations. We need only to whisper His great Name. As we stoop to catch our wee ones when they are about to fall to steady them, so too God stretches out His mighty arm as soon as we whisper His Name. He is faithful to His own. He sustains us as we cast our anxieties upon Him because He cares for us.

Heart Savor

The Lion Roars

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. Psalms 55:22 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
