My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame. I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. Psalms 119:28-32 (NIV)
Ever been paralyzed with despair, peace and calm being as elusive as winning the lottery and a thousand times more so? Anxiety and fear can overtake us in a moment leaving us frozen in our paths, confused and not knowing which way to turn. Look to Jesus. Always look up – He is always on the throne and He is always in control. Go to His Word. To be sure, it is a soothing balm for our weary sin sick souls. Indeed, God’s Word strengthens and equips us in our sojourn through this dusty earth to our heavenly dwelling place. Anxiety is not fit for a child of the King.
A humbled hurting heart is a great help towards a profitable study in God’s Word. In Scripture we find food for the soul. Delight in it and feast upon it. In doing so you will never come up wanting save a yearning for more. If we can grasp God’s Word by faith, we have an all-conquering weapon in our hands. Every promise in Scripture is “Yes” and “Amen” in Jesus. All our afflictions seem light when we can hide under the strong tower of the words “God has said” as He is the source of all wisdom and the flowing fountain of all comfort and He will do as He promises and He loves for us to pray them back to Him.
God’s Word is a deep mine of consolations, costly treasures enabling the afflicted saint to keep his head above the torrents of destruction. Let the Word dwell in you. Let it be your constant companion. Do not rob yourselves of this great mercy and gift from His Hand.
May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. Psalms 119:76 (NIV)
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)
