This is what the LORD says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, the man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” Isaiah 56:1-2 (NIV)
Our God, being rich in mercy, is also just. He is the Rock Whose works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God Who does no wrong, upright and just is He. While His justice demands, thankfully, His mercy overflows. The Lord is known by His justice. It is one of His attributes which is rooted in His character and He loves it. He desires for His children to love it and walk in it as well. Indeed, we are all hard-wired for justice. Continually examining hearts and actions, God protects, leads, guides and blesses those who are just and fair. Upright men who honor Him by living lives pleasing in His sight by doing what is right.
Often, though, hard things happen to all including the just. In a mere moment our lives can come crashing down around us. Some occurring because of our own poor choices but often, out of nowhere, like Job, we find ourselves in positions as Paul stated, far beyond our ability to endure. Paul tells us these things happen so that we might not rely on ourselves but on God (2 Corinthians 1:8-10). On God, Paul had set his hope. God desires to conform us into the image of His Son through His power, for His glory, for our good. Trials are often His choice tool in accomplishing this great task.
Remember, it is never wrong to do the right thing though oftentimes extraordinary difficult. The Lord looks down from His heavenly dwelling place to bless His people who walk in His ways, those who maintain justice by doing what is right in His eyes. He observes and examines each heart. While the earth is full of His unfailing love, He desires for His children to walk in righteousness and justice.
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8 (NIV)
“For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity. In my faithfulness I will reward them and make an everlasting covenant with them. Isaiah 61:8 (NIV)
