Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. Hebrews 11:1-2 (NIV)
When God brings us to the conviction that His Word is True Truth, how then shall we live? He waits patiently for us to obediently respond to His living and active Word. He never forces. Like the Gentleman that He is, He waits for us to walk in the obedience which flows from our faith. We must learn to act on what we know to be true. Taking God at His Word in childlike faith. Head knowledge alone merely puffs up. God desires for us to pour out what He pours in – in whatever circumstance He places us. What He is in us – His adequacy - is operative and abundantly sufficient for our every need. We have great reason to be joyful. The Lord Jesus will never be less than rather more than adequate for the needs of His people. Nothing is too hard for Him – no problem, no pain, no pressure within or without – only peace that passes understanding as we rely solely upon Him and not on the arm of flesh. His desire is for us to be complete in Him. He equips us through His Word and we act on that equipping through indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. That is to live by faith. It is not some sort of mechanical conformity to a list of religious demands – similar to a straitjacket - which satisfies the God of all creation. Rather it is the fleshing out of what He pours in - on what we know to be true – His good, pleasing and perfect will – which is evidenced clearly in His Word. God does not veil Truth to His children. His Word is clear, pleasing and perfect. As we walk by faith through His power and for His glory, He leads and guides and direct us in the way we should go and life becomes the great and miraculous adventure it was intended to be. It is the taking hold of life that is truly life.
God tells us in His Word that He has plans for us – plans to prosper and not harm, plans to give us hope and a future. We certainly do not want to miss His best for our lives by seeking to go our own pitiful ways which, BTW, will never fully satisfy our souls. While His ways are oftentimes not something we would have chosen, He strengthens us to walk in them and we can know for certain they are ultimately used for our good as that is the promise of Scripture. What He allows, builds our faith and is used to conform us into the image of His Son, Who was to be the firstborn among many brothers – including us! But it comes with a cost as it did for our Lord Jesus and Jesus tells us to consider that cost. Remember, we will never outgive Him – God will be not man’s debtor. Everything allowed is for our ultimate good and His glory as He is conforming us into the image of His Son. It is the life lived without regrets. We are the ultimate losers when we forgo His will for our own – missing out on His best by pandering the flesh in lieu of passionately pursuing His purposes for our lives. We were created for a purpose and not simply to take up space.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:5-6 (NIV)
