Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does. James 1:22-25 (NIV)
Believer, practice what you preach. Indeed, let your actions speak for your words. Oftentimes our actions are so loud they go against what we say we believe. Jesus was always winsome and wooing unless of course He was faced with the hypocrites of His day which brough forth His righteous anger. It still does. It cause others to fall when we preach Truth with our mouths and live like demons with our actions or just as bad, be puffed with pride as if we were any better than any others. We are all beggars in need of a Savior standing equally in need - on level ground - at the foot of the cross.
We want to share the good news in a meaningful way with our words and we want to impress it upon others by our actions. Do people see Jesus in us or do they merely see us? We will act on what we believe to be true. We can’t save anyone but we can lead them to the Rock that is higher than ourselves, to the fountain that never runs dry and to the joy and hope and peace that He willingly wants for everyone. We are called to walk like Him through His power and for His glory. When we go forth in His strength – not pridefully seeking our own self-aggrandizements – we will discover we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:7-10 (NIV)
