Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13 (NIV)
We are to be weak in ourselves but mighty in God. As we go forth in His power, robed in His righteousness, donning His full armor, and desirous of His glory we are mighty conquerors indeed for kingdom work. The true strength of every saint lies in the Lord of Hosts. We no longer embrace and depend upon self in all its weaknesses and frailties rather we deny it – our power comes from above. God is engaged for our defense to uphold us through the wildest storms and severest trials. His desire is to take us from “strength to strength” as we walk through them. He is with us through all our troubles, tribulations and temptations. Relying on our own strength is weakness indeed. Our souls have great value – God’s love for us being both deep and wide – and He empowers us to fight the good fight of faith – giving us all that we need. He has not left us to do this alone. He has given us the precious Holy Spirit to equip and empower us. We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength – His power readily available for every child of the King. We are to totally rely on Jesus as He relied on the Father when He walked this dusty earth. The Holy Spirit imparted to every believer at their new birth empowers us to walk as Jesus walked, enabling us to bear fruit in keeping with repentance as John the Baptist proclaimed.
When we find ourselves in a troubled state, we are to make sure we have our eyes fixed on our Savior as He is the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Weak faith focuses on the problem and not the Problem Solver. Jesus is our Comforter, our Protector and our very great reward. We can trust Him. The soul finds rest in God alone – not in people, places or things. As we take our eyes off the winds and the waves of our circumstances and place them on the One who has our circumstances under His feet, our peace is restored. We are to persist by steadily looking to Him – standing on His promises and going forth in His power.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.** Isaiah 40:28-31 (NIV)**
