Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.”   John 5:17 (NIV)

“As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me.  Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”  John 9:4-5 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

Jesus was never in a hurry nor was He ever slow rather He was perfectly in sync with His Father’s timing and works.  He always did the things that pleased God.  There was never a moment in His life that was without divine significance.  All His works sprang from God.  Neither did anything take Him by surprise.  He was not wasteful of time nor was He hurried or harried, rushed or rude.  There was a resolute purpose in all that He said and did.  Indeed, since the fall of Adam there was a Man on earth that God intended for all of us to be.  Oh to be like the Master!  What freedom and fullness we have when we walk in His ways, doing His will through His power for His glory.

Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 9:10:  “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”  The past is behind us and the future has not yet arrived.  If we want to be eminently useful in serving God, we must do what He brings to light for us to do today.  Our spirituality comes through our availability to God’s leading.  Endeavor now to bring forth fruit.  Do it promptly; do not fritter away your life by putting off what He shows you until tomorrow.  We honor Christ when we act on the things He brings into our spheres today – thinking we will do it tomorrow will not compensate for the idleness of not doing it today.  And whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving (Colossians 3:23-24).

The Lion Roars

Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.  John 14:10-13 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
