The Lesson Learned

If you remain thirsty in this life, you are going to the wrong well. Whatever other “water” we choose to satisfy our needy souls with besides the Lord Jesus Christ will inevitable find us wanting. It will never fully satisfy – it was never intended to. No other object is suitable to meet the heart’s longings and cravings as He. It is only Jesus Who is exactly suited to fill the condition of the longings of every soul - like the cup that is filled to overflowing with water, there is no space for any other “want”. He is our Maker and He should know, Amen? Yet, we often remain so clueless, seeking to be satisfied by what will never satisfy. Keeping our eyes fixed on the world rather than on the Lord. The soul finds rest and its fullest desires met in God alone. No earthly substitute or portion can suit an eternal soul. The highest good is the most suited good for every heir of mercy.

Outward mercies in which most place their hopes and happiness are like floods that swell high and then are quickly over – often leaving emptiness, confusion, wanting more or perhaps even devastation in its wake. Certainly not fulfillment, particularly when the newness and novelty wear off - as it most assuredly will. Ask me how I know. Our God is the happiness of man because He is the only One suitable to the soul. God more than meets all our needs. There is sufficiency in Him alone.

  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
