8 I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
11 You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
23 Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. 4 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse. 4 Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
1 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? 2 He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart 3 and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, 4 who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the LORD, who keeps his oath even when it hurts, 5 who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.
11 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken--that is, created things--so that what cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”
8 By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me-- a prayer to the God of my life.
“The Lord can keep you, because there’s nothing this God cannot do. No crisis or circumstance can overwhelm him. He is never surprised or shaken. He made all things, sustains all things, and rules all things, including every detail of our lives, even on the most difficult days. No hill is too high, or night too dark for him. When what you can see only screams anxiety, see the strength of his power in all he has made. Surely the God who made the mountains “is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy” (Jude 1:24).” Marshall Segal
“Rehearsing who God is for us can transform everything. Far from detached thought-experiments and philosophical speculations, what we believe about God can be life and death for us today. It will make all the difference if we, like David, know God to be our reliable Savior, our sovereign Lord, and our greatest Treasure.” David Mathis
“All these difficulties are only platforms for the manifestation of His grace, power and love.” Hudson Taylor
“To learn strong faith is to endure great trials. I have learned my faith by standing firm amid severe testings.” George Mueller
“O God, never suffer us to think that we can stand by ourselves, and not need Thee.” John Donne
“It is not through our own power that we can muster up sufficient courage in all of life’s circumstances. Flesh will fail and flee. It is only through the life controlled and empowered by the Holy Spirit that the believer is equipped to stand firm and fully assured in all the will of God while the winds of life blow hard. It is not what we do, it is what He does through us. And the One Who gives the power gets the glory.” BHY
“Whatever happens to us is from God. He rules over our lives, not just in the big picture, but in all the little details. At first, it may not seem comforting to discover he is in control — when your life is difficult, for instance. But if we know ourselves to be God’s, and God to be ours, then such knowledge is remarkably stabilizing. It doesn’t mean that we will not walk through measures of pain or defeat, but it does mean that we are assured a final victory. It doesn’t mean we take every battle, but it does mean that we will most certainly win the war.” David Mathis
“There are two methods which the Lord graciously adopts, in order to draw our heart away from this present world. The first is by setting before it the attractiveness and stability of “things above:” the second is, by faithfully declaring the evanescent [temporary] and shakable nature of ‘things of earth.’... Now it is much better to be drawn by the joys of heaven than driven by the sorrows of earth. The believer should not wait to be shaken out of the present things...There is no difficulty in giving up the world when we have, by faith, laid hold of Christ: the difficulty then would be to hold it.” CH Macintosh
“Can we trust that in the midst of all its human brokenness the Church presents the broken body of Christ to the world as food for eternal life? Can we acknowledge that where sin is abundant grace is superabundant, and that where promises are broken over and over again God’s promise stands unshaken? To believe is to answer yes to these questions.” Henri Nouwen
“My Love will never let you go! It has an eternal grip on you. You live in a world that is unpredictable and unsafe in many ways. As you look around, you see landscape littered with broken promises. However, my Love is a promise that will never be broken. Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing Love for you will not be shaken. The prophet Isaiah is painting a picture of dire circumstances: quaking mountains and disappearing hills. No matter what is happening, My Love is unshakable. You can build your life on it!” Sarah Young
“I have a Father in heaven who rules over the affairs of the nations and my focus is to be upon His kingdom. Earthly kingdoms rise and fall, and leaders come and go, but the kingdom of God cannot be shaken. When I think about the world in which our grandchildren are growing up, I find encouragement in considering Daniel. What a spiritual grounding he and his friends must have enjoyed enabling them to live as they did under the rule of a temporary kingdom in anticipation of one that is eternal. All the twists and turns of nations and leaders are under the jurisdiction of the Lord of history. When we cannot see God’s hand in the present, it is not because He is absent but because He is working in a way yet to be revealed. One day the earth will be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea (Hab. 2:14).” Alistair Begg
“Faith raises the soul above the difficulty, straight to God Himself, and enables one to stand still. We gain nothing by our restless and anxious efforts....It is therefore true wisdom, in all times of difficulty and perplexity, to stand still – to wait only upon God, and He will assuredly open a way for us.” C.H. Mackintosh
“There is no safer place to hide than in the arms of the omnipotent God. ‘I bless the Lord who gives me counsel’ (Psalms 16:7). Not only does he protect from without, but he provides wisdom from within through the leading of his Spirit. God is able to save us from the fears that threaten us, not only by intervening to guard us from harm’s way, but also by guiding us out of trouble. Knowing God as our Savior — both as refuge and counselor — inspires confidence that, come what may, we have a resource beyond compare.” David Mathis
