Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.” John 19:11 (NIV)
There is great comfort for the believer in the sovereignty of God. He Who makes known the end from the beginning, Who states His purposes will always stand, is never off His throne and always rules with a heart of love – even though oftentimes it may not “feel” like it. Never trust your emotions or feelings over God’s Truth. Always take it back to His Word. Remember the birds of the air - if God’s providence reaches to the smaller things of this world how much more so will the greater be controlled. This will hold us up as we walk through the problems and calamities of life. And we are promised them by the Master. All that He allows in the life of His heirs of mercy is pregnant with purpose, not the least of which is conforming us into the image of His Son. Trust me, when the storms of life are hitting us hard, He is not sleeping at the helm. He guides us through all the “disorder’s” for His glory and for our good.
God sets boundaries and restraints on all evilness else this world would be replete with violence, murder, profaneness, wickedness and ungodliness. We cannot imagine what His righteous hand holds back out of His love – ever desirous for all to come to Him in repentance for forgiveness of their sins. We all desperately need to be cloaked in the righteousness of Christ, Amen? Yet the wickedness of man presses hard against God’s restraints. If God removes His restraints and gives people over to their own way of thinking and doing - as in Noah’s days – the earth would quickly be engulfed by a deluge of sin and wickedness. Even the sea has boundaries - so too evil. Yet God will be glorified even in all the hard of life and usually especially through it. We are to keep our eyes fixed on Him. He gives us the strength to meet every need – even with joy. Not in the “thing” but in what that “thing” is working in the life of the believer. We do not need to be troubled. His wise hand is working all out for His glory and our good. Remember, “no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless”, the psalmist writes in Psalm 84:11.
The back of a needlepoint canvas normally looks pretty rough yet the front is a beautiful picture. What we cannot see is far greater than what we do see. Do not let your hearts be troubled or fearful. Turn “it” over to Him, again and again and again. He sits on the throne and governs all with His righteous right hand.
He will not let your foot slip-- he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Psalms 121:3-4 (NIV)
