For men are not cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men. Lamentations 3:31-33 (NIV)
The purpose in our grief is to point us to the Maker. He is not some whimsical deity in the sky delighting to watch his subjects squirm. No, no. Rather He is not willing for any to perish but all to come to repentance and He often uses what He hates to bring about what He loves. God hates the sin because it brings with it death and destruction yet he loves the sinner and desires for them to walk in His perfect and pleasing will. His call is to all yet sadly many choose not to follow. We are all guilty of slothfulness when ease is our portion. We often forget our Maker and start drinking the Kool Aid that we are in control of our lives and destines. Wrong assumption. Like our original parents prior to the fall, walk with Him in the cool of the day, lean on Him, depend on Him to direct your path and He willingly leads us home. There will most certainly be trials in this fallen world yet He remains by our side to walk us through them and to use each one for His glory and our good. The heart of our God is most wonderfully kind. He is the great maker of beauty from our ashes.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
