Our Great Instructor: He Guides Us with His Eye Upon Us

The Lion Loosed

Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Psalms 32:6-8 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

The Lord has promised to lead, guide and direct us through this “dry and weary land” on our treks to our Heavenly home. And what He allows in the life of every heir of mercy is to prepare us for that glorious end. He directs us, strengthens us, and supplies our needs as we seek to stand firm in His perfect and pleasing will, mature and fully assured. It does us well to keep our eyes fixed upon Him – His greatness and His continual Presence. “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” are His wondrous words to us.

Our God is always with us through the indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit – He did not leave us as orphans - and He must be continually regarded by us. This should keep an obedient frame of mind within and our sins at bay as well as supply us with a heart that longs to please Him. Christ is both our Savior and Lord and our great Guide to our heavenly dwelling. We are to listen and to obey His still small voice within – keeping our accounts short with Him. The safest and most wonderful place to be - albeit oftentimes extraordinarily difficult – is standing firm in His will, mature and fully assured. Whenever we venture outside of it, it is most always accompanied with iniquity and guilt.

God knows what is the very best for us – even if it is difficult. And He is always working in the hard. If we could learn in ease, He would do it. But more often than not we are like the horse or the mule that Scripture warns us about in Psalms 32:9 (NIV) which states: “Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.” Remember as well, every temptation from the fowler is an opportunity to offend our great God. We remain safe when we are in God’s will yet when we willfully choose to sin we reject God’s best for our lives and we do ourselves much harm in contrast to the “fullness of joy” and “rivers of pleasure” He desires for each of us.

Our safety depends on our good Guide. We are to hold fast to Him. He will never let the righteous fall.

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.  Psalms 55:22 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
