Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Psalms 71:3 (NIV)
Our God is our refuge and strength – an ever present help in all our troubles – enabling us to stand because He is faithful and able to cause us to stand. The oak tree becomes great not for lack of the strong winds but because of them. Trials strengthen us, equipping us to walk in a manner worthy of our high calling. Pruning us of earthliness so that we no longer cling to the seen rather the unseen. He is both our shelter and our strong protection and only in Him is found perfect peace – the peace which passes all understanding that guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Under His wings is found both safety and comfort. And we rest in His shadow. We can trust Him with our lives and the lives of all we hold dear. If it bothers us it bothers Him. When our feet begin to slip, His love supports and His strong Hand of mercy reaches down pulling us out of the deep and mirey waters. He is our sufficiency and strength – and nothing on earth compares with Him. It is God that yields substance while the earth, mere fluff. Pleasant, but not necessary.
The greatest folly in the hearts of mankind is to neglect the promises and warnings of God, Amen? We are all so prone to wander - prone to leave the God we love, right? We are bold and confident in our own flesh - until we are not. If we are blessed, we will come face to face with things too hard for us to do. That is generally when people cry out for someone higher – someone actually in control. Enter God on the scene. He stoops down from on high and takes hold of us – drawing us out from the deep as He did King David. It is good to understand the weakness of the flesh and the strength of the Almighty, right? Who can add a single hour to their life, not to mention years? God is the Giver of all life. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and all of the gold and silver belong to Him. Indeed, everything belongs to Him – down to the one sitting in the chair you are in. And, further, He also died to save our sin sick souls – out of love and compassion for us. And if He did the greater, He will most assuredly do the lesser, right? He is our mighty God, our mighty fortress. No good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless. Blessed is the one who trusts in Him.
He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. Deuteronomy 32:4 (NIV)
