Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.** Psalms 37:3-4 (NIV)**
The only thing that will fully satisfy the human heart is Jesus Christ. All other things will be found sorely wanting, as tempting to try as they are. They are nice, but not necessary. Yet, there is no wanting found in Him. He is the object of our soul’s delight. He more than satisfies the needy soul - fully and completely and eternally. He is the Living Water which fills every crevice of the human heart. Indeed, we were made by Him and for Him.
The Creator knows what the creature needs, and the soul will never be at perfect fullness, peace and rest apart from Him. He is the Filler of our deepest longings and His purposes are always good and sweeter than we perhaps imagine. One fine day we will know the certainty of that as all will all be made pristinely clear. Further, no one can snatch us out of His all powerful hands either. If we are His, we are always His. He loses none of His own. Jesus is the Good Shepherd Who came to bring us life and life to the full. Everything the adversary does is counterfeit and takes life - not gives it. Jesus not only gives us life but life to the full – abundant, effervescent and overflowing. And He ever remains faithful to His promises and loving towards all He has made.
As we tend to our faith, God tends to our peace and fullness of joy. “No good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless,” the psalmist writes. It is His love that fully and completely satisfies the human heart. No person, place or thing is capable to fill that huge heart cavern but Christ alone – no matter how hard we may try to make it so. It is like seeking to place a square peg in a round hole – it will never work and will always find us wanting. Psalms 90:14 (NIV) tells us: “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”
As Hannah prayed extolling the Lord in 1 Samuel 2:2 (NIV): “There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.” Indeed, “there is no one like the God of Jeshurun” as Moses penned in Deuteronomy 33:26-27 (NIV): “who rides on the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, ‘Destroy him!’
“The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.”** Psalms 145:17-19 (NIV)**
