When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? Psalms 8:3-4 (NIV)
Our God is so totally other. He who makes known the end from the beginning from ancient times what is yet to come - He who speaks and creates out of nothing by the power of His mighty Word - He who knows and judges the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts – He who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand and with the breadth of His hand marked off the heavens – and on and on one can go. Mere flesh cannot begin to understand the mind of the Lord or instruct Him as His counselor – He leaves us overwhelmed with the wonder of it all. There is nothing whatsoever in ourselves in which we may glory. What do we have that we did not receive? How carefully we should be to walk humbly with our God. This leaves us to rightly ask as King David: What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
We barely give Him a snip-it of the glory He is rightfully due. Indeed, He is to receive all glory due His Name. In heaven His praises shall never cease. Let your first care be to glorify God to the utmost of your power exactly where He has placed you – on the mountain top or in the dungeon. Fill your present sphere with His praises and bring Him much glory exactly where you are. If He needs you in another place He will show it to you and make it clear. Lord we pray that all that we say, and all that we do, and all that we have will glorify you now and forevermore.
Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. Psalms 29:1-2 (NIV)
