For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:19-20 (NIV)
My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. Psalms 119:148 (NIV)
Scripture is filled with wonderful promises given to us by God to appropriate and claim. Every Word that proceeds from His lips shall be fulfilled in His perfect timing. When He speaks, it is because He means to do what He has said. “You have said Lord…” is a perfectly suitable prayer followed by His promise given. It is not that He is forgetful or needs to be reminded, it is that He enjoys having His children pray them back to Him in humble expectation and appreciation. He is never early nor is He ever late in His timing yet some things we may never receive as they remain unasked for unclaimed. Therefore, we are richly blessed when we “mine” for these wonderful treasures in His Word. For God loves for His children to claim each one. We do ourselves a great disservice when we neglect the reading of His Word and the claiming of the promises therein.
If you have a divine promise you need not plead it with an “if” rather you may urge it with great certainty. Many of the saints of Scriptures could claim what Joshua claimed: “You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.” Joshua 23:14 (NIV)
Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them. Psalms 119:140 (NIV)
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. Psalms 145:13 (NIV)
