The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost--also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!” Numbers 11:4-6 (NIV)
Moses heard the people of every family wailing, each at the entrance to his tent. The LORD became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. Numbers 11:10 (NIV)
God hates complaining. Indeed, it is grumbling against His provisions and demonstrates our lack of trust in Him. It shows we think we know what is the very best for our lives. To be sure, He desires for us to bring everything to Him in prayer – particularly those things that are not of our choosing. We can even beg Him to change our circumstances, just as Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane, but the “nevertheless not what I will but what You will” always needs to follow our supplications. Jesus came to do the Father’s will and that is exactly what we are to be about as well.
God is teaching us through having what we don’t want or wanting what we don’t have to trust Him fully. He always has our best interest at heart though we may remain blinded as Job was. We can trust Him with our lives and the lives of all we hold dear. God desires to be our all – fully and completely. He shares the throne of our hearts with no one or with no thing. When our cups are filled with Him they overflow and everything else is superfluous. Nice but not necessary. Trust Him that He knows what is the very best for our lives. We all see but a poor reflection but He sees perfectly making known the end from the beginning.
Remember, God is the Master in doing “pala” things – things too hard for us to do - and He is in the business of making beauty out of our ashes - always picking up the “broken pieces” of our lives and using these for our good and His glory never one surpassing the other. And He does not want to see us kicking and screaming against His best for our lives. We may not understand His ways but we can trust Him. And He is so worthy of our love and trust.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
