Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.”** 2 Chronicles 14:11 (NIV)**
We all need God’s great grace, Amen? Not one of us is perfect. It is a given, failures and disappointments are undeniable in our fallen and broken world. No matter how hard we may try. We can fail. Over and over and over again. That is why we all so desperately need a Savior – and praise God we have One in Jesus. We rely on Him – trusting in Him with all our hearts and leaning not on our own understandings – acknowledging Him in all our ways - and it is He Who makes our paths straight according to Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV). Human insights and power will never be enough. Never. All of our human imperfections remind us of our need for Christ’s perfection, Amen? As King Asa stated, we are “powerless against the mighty” – indeed we are no match for Satan and his legions of demons - but God is more powerful still.
God often uses our weaknesses to reflect His mighty power. Think the Apostle Paul, who writes in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (NIV): “To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Rather than removing Paul’s problem He gave him grace in and through it – adequate to even providing the grace sufficient for the apostle’s contentment. Not only sufficient contentment but also delight, stating even in weakness he was strong. God’s grace totally transformed the Apostles’ perspective. God often allows our weaknesses to display His power and strength to a needy world. The world judges by fruitfulness and accomplishments but God judges by our faithfulness. We labor and work hard but our results are up to the Lord. He is the One Who exalts and abases according to His perfect and pleasing will. All for His glory, all for our good. We work hard and rest in Him for the results.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.** Colossians 3:23-25 (NIV)**
