Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:28-31 (NIV)
Weary, tired, soul sick? I get it. This world in all its fast paced extravaganzas, big businesses, screaming babies, sickness, and all the crisis’s in our world could leave even the strong of heart like a tire totally flattened. Where do we turn at our rope’s end? The answer – Jesus. As a breath of fresh air, a cool breeze and a cup of cold water when in dire thirst brings the body satisfaction there is nothing like the Lord to fully satisfy the weary soul. Ask me how I know. And the Lord God says to us through the pen of Isaiah: “Hope in Me” if you want your strength renewed.
We must learn to use our faith and this begins by a daily diet of His Word – considering all of our promises and privileges. King David loved the commandments and promises of God – even more than gold, than fine gold. They were sweeter to him than honey. We should pray that we would have like feelings. We must also seek to elevate our souls by talking with sweet Jesus. Discourse with Him through prayer eases our burdens making our loads lighter. We can tell Him anything and the blessing is He never repeats or reminds us. It serves us well to be reminded that we are a child of the King and our position is secure.
Faith gets its nourishment from God/Jesus. It taught Moses to lead, Caleb to battle giants (at 80 no less!), patience to Job, David to fight and Paul to preach. Having little faith will save a person, but little faith can’t do great things for God. Surely God is willing to sustain and strengthen His modern day believers as well. As we grow from faith to faith in our trek through this dusty earth, God will take us from strength to strength as we rely upon Him. As His beloved, we can rest secure in Him. And isn’t “rest” such a delicious word?
“Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders.” Deuteronomy 33:12 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
