Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Psalms 51:4 (NIV)
Assurance of God’s undying love for us and His forgiveness for our sins when we turn to Him in repentance as well as the sufficiency of His great grace to cover all our transgressions is a necessity for every child of the King - especially when our hearts are broken over our sin. As Corrie ten Boom once quipped “There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still.” Indeed, “as far is the east is from the west, so far as He removed our transgressions from us,” King David writes. He reaches down from on high and takes hold of us, drawing us out of the deep waters of our own poor choices.
God’s love changes us and His Truth sets us free. Every promise in Scripture is “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ Jesus. If we belong to Him, He cleanses us from all our unrighteousness – which we need daily BTW – and enables us to feel the warmth of His smile, the security of His love, and His peace which passes all understanding bringing us much comfort, hope and lasting joy. There is nothing quite like a clean slate of forgiveness, Amen? Fresh every morning – His tender mercies are as sure as the sun rising.
Do not wait to turn. He longs to be gracious to you and rises to show you compassion. He considers our frames and He knows how we are made. And He is ever so merciful. Remember in the parable of the prodigal how He comes running with excitement to meet His son, overjoyed that His son returned? That is the heart of our God. “His mercies how tender, how firm to the end – our Maker, Defender, Redeemer and Friend.” (Robert Grant).
Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! Isaiah 30:18 (NIV)
Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:18-19 (NIV)
