For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is light that makes everything visible. Christians are to be the light of the world – a city on a hill that cannot be hidden - pointing others to the Good News of Christ. People around us should clearly see whose we are and whom we serve – reflecting in our actions our Lord Jesus. We are called children of light though darkness remains in us still. We must not conceal our lights and we are to rid ourselves of whatever hides our candles and prevents His light from shining fully through us. People need Jesus. People need someone to point them to Jesus. Let your works speak as loud as your words. When others examine your life they will know that you have been with Jesus. Christians are called to be a beacon in the dark of night shining our lights in our spheres in their time of His-story.
Light is the emblem of joy in Scripture as well as the cause of beauty. Of Himself, Jesus states, He is the Light of the world. Light and darkness do not mix – God has divided them and we are not to confuse them. God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. Therefore, Christians are not to wallow in the deeds of darkness. We are to be different from the world – pointing others to Christ through our words and works, setting our hearts and minds on things above. That is the model that Jesus set before us. The Lord Himself places the Light in our hearts and He looks upon each one of us with the greatest of love and interest. Live as children of light through His power for His glory for our good.
