Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:16-17 (NIV)
If we are presently in a season of drought, look up, that is the season for showers. “There will be showers of blessings.” The word is in the plural. For a maxi-girl like me, that makes me very happy. I mean, if one is good, two are better, right? Our God never gives misery. He is not a stingy God. “Open wide your mouth and I will fill it,” is His mantra – as He states in Psalms 81:l0 (NIV). “I will not send down drops of grace rather showers,” says He. There is no need for us to turn to any “foreign god” in our culture with our empty cups in our hands to be filled. God knows what we need, when we need it as well as the quantity necessary for our best interest, which, BTW, He always has our best interest at heart. And oftentimes, He even sweetly puts a “cherry” on top so that we can know that we know that we know that it was His Hand who bestowed it! Indeed, He is a very personal God.
God loves to surprise His heirs of mercy. I am not talking about “glitzy, out of the box over the top” type of things (though He can and often does do those too), I am talking about things often only He knows that will bless our hearts. If He is faithful in granting us converting grace, He will also be faithful in granting us comforting grace, Amen? God will send all kinds of blessings – blessings that go together like links in a golden chain. We want His generous grace to make us humble, patient, prayerful, holy, loving and zealous not only to preserve us through this sojourn to heaven but to bless all those in our spheres. His gifts of grace are given to us to be used through us so that we might be a blessing in every encounter in our spheres of influence – and we all have them. When God gives a blessing, He does so in such a way that He overflows our cups. It is in such measure that there is not enough room to receive it. He saturates us with showers of grace in season. Look up parched people for a heavenly watering is waiting.
“‘I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of wild beasts so that they may live in the desert and sleep in the forests in safety. I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing. The trees of the field will yield their fruit and the ground will yield its crops; the people will be secure in their land. They will know that I am the LORD, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who enslaved them.’” Ezekiel 34:25-27 (NIV)
