Soul Rest: God is Our Refuge and Strength

Bread

The Lion Loosed

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah  Psalms 62:5-8 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

David tells us our God is our Rock, our Salvation, our Fortress, our Expectation, and our Refuge.  He alone can give soul rest.  As the cords of death entangle and confront us or the torrents of destruction overwhelm us, we call to God in our distress – we cry to Him for help.  Our cries come before Him into His ears.  He misses not one sigh – He is attentive to both the wailings of the weakest and the mightiest. He is our solid refuge.  He is the Rock on which we can stand when we are placed in circumstances far beyond our ability to endure.  On Him we can rely and place our hope that He is most certainly working all this – even this – out for my ultimate good and for His ultimate glory never one exceeding the other.  You can trust Him.  His children live enclosed within the boundaries of His mercy, grace and love and there is no safer place.

Heart Savor

The Lion Roars

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.  He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.  Psalms 18:16-19 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
