You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. Psalms 112:6-7 (NIV)
Sometimes we can find life making us shake, rattle and roll, Amen? A pink slip, a bad diagnosis, rejection by someone we dearly love, a lingering illness and on and on we could go – all leaving us breathless and not in a warm and fuzzy way to be sure. Look up – not out or in but up. Our eyes are to be fixed on Jesus and not on our circumstances. As we look to Him, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, a peace that passes all understanding will guard our hearts and minds. He knows how hard life can be – He walked this dusty earth as well. Even though God incarnate, He did not grasp His position rather He made Himself nothing. He felt what we feel and is able to empathize with all we walk through. We are not alone. We are never alone.
As we fix our eyes on Him instead of our hopeless circumstances – leaning not on our own understanding – acknowledging Him in all our ways, He promises He will make our paths straight. Remember Jesus is both the Author and Perfecter of our faith. And He is our Supreme model as well. Nothing can touch us apart from God’s will. We can be sure that everything allowed happens for a purpose of building us up rather than tearing us down. We can trust Him with our lives even in the most trying of circumstances. Further, we are enabled to do it with a peace that passes human understanding. This speaks volumes to a hurting hopeless world because it is otherworldly. It points others to the Source of our power which, of course, is Christ Jesus. He was constantly telling His original disciples to “fear not” and He continually tells us this as well. It is a hard lesson for us to learn as we are constantly trying to take back control of the reins.
A steadfast mind and heart – one that is not easily dissuaded or swayed – does much for the Kingdom of God and leaves the aroma of Christ in their every encounters.
“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:25-27 (NIV)
