Steadfast: Standing Firm In Times Of Trouble

The Lion Loosed

“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them. The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face. Psalms 11:3-7 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

When our footings begin to tremble and quake and our foundations are being crumbled King David tells us we must flee to the feet of our Savior, seeking refuge in the Lord alone. He is our real Source of security - our mighty Rock on which we firmly stand. His eye is ever on the righteous and His ear attentive to their prayers. We can rest secure in Him as He is always on His throne and nothing takes Him by surprise. Nothing. The Prophet Isaiah tells us God will keep us in perfect peace if our mind is steadfast trusting in Him. Does that not sound wonderfully bliss?

God does not want us wringing our hands in despair rather He desires for His children to quietly trust in Him and His kind and gracious provisions for us. His promise is that He will work all things out for our ultimate good and His glory – one never surpassing the other. He loves us and wants us to trust Him – even (and perhaps especially) in the direst of circumstances not of our choosing.

Our enemy prowls around like a roaring lion seeking to destroy but God (my two favorite words used together in Scripture) desires our restoration making us strong, firm and steadfast. He is on our side in this battle against the adversary of our souls. Run to Him – He is only a breath away.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
