Oh the glory of the ever-flowing fountain of God’s grace! As waves give way to more waves, so too, grace gives way to more grace. Who has ever returned from His “door” unblessed or from His “table” unsatisfied? No one can know the number of His benefits – no one can fathom the depth of His gracious love and mercy. We can do nothing without Him – from the first to the last we are indebted to Him – and all is grace. Breath in our lungs, strawberries in the springtime, a child’s smile, a loving note from a friend, bright sunshine, a heavy rain and millions upon millions of other things all attest to His abundant grace, His unwavering faithfulness and His care and concern for His people. The most far reaching of His promises regarding future grace was penned by the Apostle Paul in Romans 8:32 – “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?”
To be sure, the will of God will never take us where the grace of God cannot sustain us. It is Jehovah’s nature to give grace generously to us – it is His heart’s delight. Grace in all its forms He renders freely – pouring into our souls without ceasing. Pretended grace from natural goodness is a mere shadow in lieu of the rock hard substance of God’s unmerited favor which is at the ready to help us at virtually every turn. It is the fount that never runs dry.
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:22-24 (NIV)
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:13-16 (NIV)
